PUNCH Media Blog

It lives! So, what is it? The PMB is about the people and places we [the folks at PUNCH Media] experience in our travels and day-to-day running around through the streets of Philadelphia. It’s sometimes about cool stuff happening with our clients, also, it’s simply about positive experiences we’d like to share with you, and the folks we encounter along the way.

    & James Beard Semi-Finalist

    CNN Go

It’s been a whirlwind week for The Franklin Mortgage & Investment Co. On Tuesday, CNNGo’s Jennings Brown took note of the influx of American speakeasies. Specifically about The Franklin, he says “Now, one of the best drinking establishments in America assumes the same name in honor of the Jewish mobster, Max ‘Boo Boo’ Hoff, who kept Philly wet through the Roaring Twenties. Patrons can expect finely dressed servers providing pre-Prohibition cocktail suggestions, an education and a reminder of what Boo Boo was fighting for.”

Then, Mardi Gras! NOLA holds a special place in cocktail history. The Franklin paid tribute with four New Orleans-routed cocktails.

The James Beard Foundation, one of the most prestigious culinary establishments, named The Franklin a semi-finalist for “Outstanding Bar Program.” From all of us at PUNCH Media, congratulations and keep rockin’ it.

Walnut Street Supper Club is opening soon, and Meal Ticket is looking forward to it:

“This Wednesday, Dec. 28, Ralph Berarducci and Midtown Village Association founder James McManaman will unveil what’s been going in on the other side of all that window paper — Walnut Street Supper Club, a Stork Club-esque venue that will mix Portofino’s housemade pastas and Italian specialties with old-school classics from a bygone restaurant era (think ritzy, jacket-required steakhouse). The food and drink at the 175-seater will be complemented by live music overseen by musical director Jeremiah Downes. (The waitstaff will be among the performers, a la Victor Café.) The Supper club will be open nightly from 5 p.m.”

Food and Wine 50 Best Bars

Food & Wine is the latest publication to name The Franklin Mortgage & Investment Co. one of the best bars in America.

“Hidden in a building that fronted the largest alcohol-smuggling ring in the U.S. during Prohibition, this lounge maintains a speakeasy feel. Dapper bartenders serve spot-on classics, plus tasty new inventions like the Peckinpah (mezcal, rum, lime juice and blackberry-habanero syrup).”

“Colin & I’ll be offering a straight dealer’s choice menu, which is to say that within some simple parameters you, the celebrant, present us, we’ll be drawing on our sizable repertoire of recipes to whip up some surprises. In short, there’ll be plenty to imbibe, loosely reined-in pandemonium, & lots of nervous laughter. The makings, in other words, of a memorable evening…,” says Guest Bartender Nick Jarrett [Bushwick Country Club, Dram, Clover Club and formerly of The Franklin].
